Just do the whole thing in photoshop/painter. You can use the nice photo you have as the reference and just completely retrace it with the pen tool.

Yeah, I had a scanner like that too, except it was also a combo printer and fax. I think the printer stopped working and my parents tossed it out into the rain. Then the one they got was a feed scanner, so I haven't been able to scan anything in that's in any of my books cuz I don't wanna tear the pages out. And I don't have the space for a scanner of my own or a separate one, so I know the deal all to well myself amigo.

yeah, i was really considering cutting pages out with an exacto (i hate ripping pages out of books) but i dunno if i can bring myself to do that... when you draw something in a book ripping it out just feels... wrong. lol.

Agreed, like it just ruins the value of it. I think it's more about preserving the originality than anything else, leaving it where it made or what it was drawn in.
